Slip Testing in Ireland — Your Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about UKAS-accredited pendulum slip testing in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

What is UKAS-accredited slip testing and why does it matter in Ireland?

UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation is the internationally recognised gold standard for testing laboratories. In Ireland, UKAS-accredited BS 7976 pendulum test reports are accepted by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), Irish and UK courts, and all major insurers as evidence of due diligence on floor safety. A non-accredited report carries nothing like the same legal weight.

How much does slip testing cost in Ireland?

On-site BS 7976 pendulum testing in Ireland typically ranges from €500 to €1,500 per visit depending on location, the number of test areas and access requirements. Every quote includes a full UKAS-accredited report delivered within 48 hours. We provide fixed-price quotes with no hidden extras — contact us for a free quote tailored to your site.

What is a PTV value and what is considered safe?

PTV (Pendulum Test Value) measures the dynamic coefficient of friction between a person's footwear and a flooring surface. A PTV of 36 or above is classified as "low slip potential" by the UK Slip Resistance Group and HSE guidance. Between 25 and 35 is "moderate" and below 25 is "high slip potential". We test both dry and contaminated (wet) conditions because many floors that are safe when dry become dangerous when wet.

Do you cover both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland?

Yes. Our engineers test across the entire island of Ireland — from Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick through to Belfast, Derry, Armagh and Newry. A single UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation covers all jurisdictions, so a report from us is equally valid in an Irish or UK court.

How quickly can you attend a site in Ireland?

We typically attend Irish sites within 5 to 10 working days of booking. Urgent attendance for claims defence or post-incident investigation can often be arranged within 48 to 72 hours where the engineer schedule allows. Contact us with your site location and requirements for a current lead time.

What standards do you test to?

We test to BS 7976-2 (the pendulum test), EN 13036-4, DIN 51130 (R-ratings via ramp test referral) and BS 8204 where applicable. BS 7976 is the HSE-preferred in-situ method and the only slip testing method routinely accepted as evidence in Irish and UK personal injury litigation.

I've had a slip-and-fall claim made against my business. Can you help?

Yes — this is a significant part of our work. We provide UKAS-accredited post-incident pendulum testing, along with expert witness reports written specifically for litigation. We work regularly with Irish and UK solicitors on both claims defence and claimant-side investigations. Your insurer will usually accept our report directly.

What types of premises do you test?

All commercial and public premises: retail stores, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, pubs, hospitals, care homes, schools, leisure centres, swimming pools, offices, commercial kitchens, transport hubs, car parks and public walkways. If people walk on it, we can test it.
